Sligo's Zombie Invasion

The peace and tranquillity of a normal Saturday (22 Nov) afternoon was disturbed when at precisely 2pm approximately 200 'Zombies' invaded Sligo's main thoroughfare, O'Connell Street. The well orchestrated routine, known all over the world as a 'flash mob' descended upon the street at a given signal, a shrill blood-curling scream. Shoppers were surprised and enthralled to see this mob gyrate and lurch in a zombie-like fashion around the street whilst crying out "Brains..More Brains...Brains....Tasty!"

The entire episode lasted just three minutes and at another prearranged signal the crowd disappeared up side streets, alleys and malls leaving behind them a bemused Saturday afternoon throng of shoppers and sightseers.

The event was an artistic protest at the controversy that continues to dominate conversations around the Northwest's Gateway City and was organised by the campaigners against the reintroduction of vehicles into the pedestrianised O'Connell St after three traffic-free years.
