Referendum Day welcomed by Sligo TD

The full wording of the long-awaited Children's Rights Referendum will be published later today.

Yesterday, Tuesday, the government confirmed that the Referendum will be held on Saturday, November 10.

The referendum day has been welcomed by Sligo/North Leitrim TD, Tony Mc Loughlin

“This is the first time that a national plebiscite will be held on a Saturday which I hope will enable a significant number of extra people to vote in this referendum” stated Deputy Mc Loughlin

“Last June under a Topical Issues debate I called on the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government to allow Saturdays as the voting day and I am glad now that this will happen to allow more people to vote and ensure many school children will not lose a school day and in turn inconvenience many parents as a lot of polling booths are based in Schools” concluded Deputy Mc Loughlin.

The new adoption legislation will also be published today, while a referendum commission will also be established.
