Council receives and banks €175k towards royal visit

Sligo county Council have received €175k toward the cost of the Royal visit to Sligo.

The visit of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in May is understood to have cost the Council €377k and the Department of the Environment's grant for various road and footpath upgrading countywide has reduced the overall outlay to  €202k.

However County CEO Ciarán Hayes while confirming the grant is 'already banked' said he was hopeful of further funding and had applied for such assistance.

Mr Hayes also said that the financial return to Sligo due to increased tourism directly related to the visit was very significant.
