Library closures threat for ministerial discussion

Two meetings are scheduled this week to discuss the threat of library closures in county Sligo.

Tony McLoughlin TD confirms that that he will attend a meeting in Dublin between the Minister for Local Government Simon Coveney, the CEO of the Council Ciarán Hayes on Wednesday.

It is also understood that a delegation of cross-party Sligo councillors are due to meet later to discuss the issue.

Sligo Central Library closed yesterday, Monday 19 September, for three weeks as part of a series of 'rolling closures' which has also recently affected the branches in Ballymote and Tubbercurry.

Over 500 people attended a protest on Saturday over the threat of permanent closure of one, possibly two, of Sligo's libraries. See link below.
