Sligo four chasing new town, village renewal cash

FOUR CENTRES in Sligo are chasing funds from the new towns and villages renewal scheme.

A decision is expected by the end of this month on successful applicants.

Minister Heather Humphreys told the Dail on Thursday that 172 applications from across the country are currently being assessed within her Department.

Local Communities

Up to 380,000 will be available to each local authority, said the Minister with responsibility for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Local councils were asked to shortlist up to eight local proposals when the scheme was announced in August, said the Minister.

This, she added, was done ''done in consultation with local communities and businesses.''

Project costs in the various towns and villages will be eligible to attract up to 380,000 in grant support.

"The minimum grant payable is 20,000; the maximum grant is 100,000,'' Minister Humpheys explained on Thursday.

She was responding to several queries raised. by Sligo TD Tony McLoughlin.

On High
