Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny will contact Sligo Rovers manager Dave Robertson to discuss a controversial tweet he sent out during Dundalk's loss to St Patrick's Athletic on Tuesday night. Dundalk suffered a 5-2 defeat after fielding a dramatically weakened side just 48 hours after they secured a third league title in a row on Sunday.
Kenny took the opportunity to rest his first teamers after a hectic schedule, and that helped the Saints towards a win which moved them to within one point of fifth-placed Sligo with one match remaining.
Robertson was unimpressed as a Dundalk side with a host of league debutants shipped four goals during the first half, and he took to Twitter."Looks like Stephen Kenny & Dundalk have chucked the towel in on the League #NoIntegrity," tweeted the Bit O'Red manager.
His remarks caused a storm online, with former Dundalk player Mark Rossiter among those to voice their disapproval.
Robertson later rowed back to say that no 'insult' was intended, but Kenny was informed of his comments and indicated that he would call his counterpart to discuss the issue.
