Following a meeting on Saturday night a plan of action has been put in place in the campaign to save Ballygawley Post Office. The co-ordinator of the growing movement Thomas Walsh has urged people to, "Stand up and be counted, what can people do for the campaign?"
A number of initiatives have now been put in place:
· A Show of Support evening will take place this Wednesday evening, 16th November,
from 5.30-6.30pm outside Ballygawley Post Office.
· A Public Meeting will take place on Thursday 17th November 2016 at 8pm sharp in
Callaghans Lounge. Ballygawley.Mr Walsh is urging the public to get a petition sheet filled with signatures and getting the word out to friends and family by any means including social media.
He is also asking those involved in a club or business to provide a letter of support.
Meanwhile an An Post director has revealed that over 700 rural post offices are in danger of closing. The company's Retail Director John Daly told today's Irish Daily Mail that An Post can no longer afford to run the outlets which he says have become 'unsustainable'.
Minister of State, Michael Ring TD has warned that, "there is no point in defending that which won't survive. Post offices have to change how they do business."
