Summerhill College Awards Night 2016

The annual awards night to celebrate achievement at Summerhill College was held recently.

With a large attendance from students, parents and staff awards were given in wide variety of academic, sporting and extracurricular categories. The ceremony was opened with a blessing by the College Patron, Bishop Kevin Doran. The Principal, Mr Keogh, delivered words of thanks, praise and encouragement to the whole college community.

He mentioned especially all the students of the college who each in their own way excel. However, he had a particular word of congratulations for the students receiving awards, their parents and guardians and thanks for the dedicated teaching and support staff of the college who accompanied them on the journey.

Student of the year award went to Colm Tuohy who achieved a maximum number of CAO points in the 2016 Leaving Certificate. Sportsperson of the year went to Sean Power who was joint captain of the highly successful senior gaelic football team last year. The top Junior Certificate award went to Matthew Donnellan who achieved the best Junior Certificate Result at the college in 2016.

The inaugural Father John Leogue Ethos award was conferred on two teachers of the College – Mr Kenny Donagher and Mr Shane Ryonalds in recognition for their work on the foundation and management of the John Count McCormack Recording Studio and their production of the Student Album “The Hill is Alive”.
