According to research conducted by tyre maker Michelin, seven in every 10 motorists now commence their auto-related purchase process online.
Of these, the largest proportion goes online to research their tyre choice options - before deciding to buy offline.
This rise in the importance and use of e-commerce is said by Michelin to represent a major growth opportunity for tyre dealers.
Noting that consumers value the opinion of an expert when purchasing tyres, Michelin recommends that dealers be even more active in demonstrating their pedigree as leaders in this field.
