Sligo's Christmas lights switch on this Friday

Sligo Business Improvement District (BID) invites all to join in turning on the Sligo Christmas lights on Friday, November 25th at 5.30pm.

This year Sligo's lights will be turned on by Special Olympic heroes Margaret Carr and Thomas Connolly.

Margaret won gold in the 18 hole golf at the Los Angeles 2015 Special Olympic World Summer Games and Thomas won gold and silver in equestrian at the same world event. It is a delight to have these local heroes lighting up the town.

BID would like to thank electrical contractor, Michael McDonagh and his team who have worked hard over the last number of weeks installing over 30,000 lights in the large trees in the town centre and over 40 Christmas frames.

Also thanks was expressed to Sligo County Council for their ongoing funding support, in particular Brian Flynn and Lucy Brennan who assisted in completing the installation.

The Centre lights will be switched on at 5.30pm at the Wine St end of O’Connell  St (outside the Failte Ireland offices).

This will be followed immediately after by the turning on of the Christmas Tree lights at City Hall by the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Hubert Keaney.

Sligo BID extends an invitation to all locals and visitors to this spectacular event to mark the beginning of the Christmas festive season.
