Man charged with Sligo musician's murder

A 29-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a musician in Sligo last year.

Keith Brady of Cartron Estate in Sligo appeared before Sligo District Court today, Thursday, where he was charged with the murder of Martin 'Matt' Kivlehan at The New Apartments, Holborn Street, Sligo.

Mr Kivlehan, a well-known musician in Sligo, was found stabbed in his apartment on 3 August 2015.

RTÉ reports that Detective Inspector Tom Colsh gave evidence of the arrest and charge and told the court that Mr Brady replied when the charge was put to him: "I just want to say I'm sorry for what happened.

"I never meant for any of this to happen and to this day I still don't know what went wrong."

Mr Brady's barrister said the the accused had a very long and serious history of drug misuse.

Mr Brady was remanded in custody to appear again before Harristown District Court tomorrow, Friday.

Judge Kevin Kilrane directed he receive such treatment as necessary for his addiction along with a psychiatric assessment.
