Fitness coach boxes for charity

Fitness coach and nutrition expert, Alan Williams, is raising funds for the North West Hospice Sligo by running a charity ultimate thump boxing class.

The class will take place on Saturday, December 17 at the Teeling Centre in Collooney and all proceeds will go directly to the charity.

“North West Hospice has had a hugely positive impact on the lives of so many people in the region,” says Alan, who was inspired by some of the stories he heard from people who needed support from the hospice.

“Every person has spoken in glowing terms of the care and support they provide. I’ve even spoken to people who were simply visitors and couldn’t believe how well they were looked after. Every person speaks of staff actively going out of their way to help as much as possible.

“The North West Hospice has played a part in the lives of so many people in Sligo and surrounding areas and I feel it’s important that we show them the support that they show all of us. Financial assistance is vital to enable them to keep providing the services they do and I feel blessed to be in a position to help out.”

Alan’s business ethos is about support and encouraging people to train and to achieve goals together. “It’s all based on a principle of helping each other. Teamwork and supporting each other are fundamental factors and this is why the work of North West Hospice resonates with me. Caring for and supporting others is a crucial thing in all walks of life and if I can assist that in any small way I will actively do that,” he says.

Thump boxing is one of Sligo’s most popular fitness classes among both male and female clients.

People of all fitness levels are invited to take part in the charity class, which promises to be a fun and enjoyable morning with Alan teaching various punch techniques, boxing combinations, bodyweight exercises and short sprints.

“All classes are based on boxing combinations using gloves and pads; there is no physical contact so nobody gets hurt! In addition to learning various punch techniques you will also get a killer workout,” says Alan.

The class runs on Saturday, December 17 from 10am to 12.30pm at the Teeling Centre in Collooney. The cost of the class is €12, all of which will be donated to North West Hospice.

Boxing equipment will be provided but participants are encouraged bring a piece of fruit to refuel during the break.
