Sligo School of Contemporary Music (SSCM), formerly Sligo School of Rock, is moving premises as of Tuesday January 10th from St. Edwards N.S. to Summerhill College.
Head of School, Ken McDonald, is very excited about the move, “Due to our need for expansion, our board of directors and I felt that SSCM required a new home. We originally started in 2007 with 9 students and have over 100 now and growing. We’ve had 8 very happy years at St. Edwards but I feel it’s time for a new challenge and to move on”.
SSCM cater for students of all ages learning guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, drums and percussion. The majority of SSCM students sit internationally recognised graded exams with a contemporary music syllabus. However, specific tailor-made lessons can also be devised for individuals.
The teaching at SSCM is all about nurturing a life-long passion for music and learning through performance with a strong emphasis on enjoyment. “We have developed a strong symbiosis with Sligo Academy of Music, who are also part of this move,” says Ken “We are both very much looking forward to building on this relationship in our new home at Summerhill College”.
