Sligo meeting over rising motor insurance premiums
A Sligo councillor says private motorists are not the only people hit by sky-rocketing motor insurance premiums.
Ocean FM reports that People Before Profit Councillor Gino O Boyle says some bus and taxi companies and those using vehicles for their work and businesses have seen premium increases of five to six hundred per cent.
Cllr O Boyle was speaking ahead of a public meeting tonight on the issue in the Sligo City Hotel at 8 o clock.
He says a Bill is currently going through the Dail proposing a cap on premiums.
But he is also calling for a longer-term State solution.
He told the radio station that 'There should be a national state not-for-profit insurance company which would outlaw the current discrimination in the industry.'
