Taoiseach invited to White House for St Patrick's Day

Enda Kenny's visit to the US on St Patrick's Day was officially announced today by the White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Mr Spicer said that an invitation was extended to Mr Kenny and that invitation was accepted during the transition period.

The press secretary described the subject as something that was “near and dear” to him.

One member of the Irish Government unlikely to be on the White House guest list is Junior Minister John Halligan who this morning stated that Donald Trump is an obnoxious man whose views on women are appalling.

It’s after the US President said he would consider bringing back waterboarding as a form of torture.

Politicians here have largely rowed back on their critical views of Donald Trump since he was elected.
