Man dies in Connemara workplace accident

An investigation is underway after a man died in a workplace accident in Connemara yesterday.

RTÉ reports that the man was working at Ros a Mhíl harbour when he was struck by a piece of machinery.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Galway, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A second man was injured in the incident. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

It is understood the Health and Safety Authority will carry out an inspection at the site today.

Meanwhile gardaí are investigating the death of a man following a road traffic incident on the N3 at Lower Lavey, Co Cavan.

The man, who was in his 20s, was the only occupant of the car and was fatally injured when the car he was driving crashed into fencing on the roadside.

The stretch of road is currently closed and diversions are in place.
