Assault victim rushed to Sligo hospital

A man and a woman are being held for questioning after a young woman was found unconscious on a street with head injuries in a suspected assault.

The man, aged in his 50s, and the woman, in her late 30s, were arrested yesterday and held for questioning at Ballyshannon garda station last night.

Independent.ie reports that the 25-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was found lying unconscious on Market Street in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, at around 2.30am yesterday. She was rushed to Sligo University Hospital and treated for head injuries.

However, her condition was not life threatening and she was released from hospital after her condition improved.

Gardaí last night confirmed they were treating the incident as an assault.

They will review CCTV footage with the hope it may shed some light on what happened.

A number of streets were closed off in the area as gardaí forensic investigators combed the area for evidence.

Meanwhile, gardaí are still no closer to solving the mystery surrounding teenage law student Kym Owens, who was found seriously injured on a roadside in Maynooth, Co Kildare, 10 weeks ago.

It is understood the 18-year-old native of Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, remains in an induced coma after she suffered severe head injuries while en route to her student accommodation in the town on November 20.

Gardaí are still investigating the cause of her injuries.
