Tusla CEO denies malice of intent against Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe

The chief executive of the child and family agency says there is no evidence that staff at TUSLA acted with malice of intent in the case of Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

Fred McBride has informed the Oireachtas Children's Committee that they are now in "formal engagement" with the Charleton Tribunal and therefore he is limited in what he can say.

He says TUSLA has one single aim - child protection.

Mr McBride referred to the Maurice McCabe case.

He said: "I would like to clearly reiterate our apology to people affected by our mistakes and for the distress and upset that they have endured.

"I have no knowledge or evidence that TUSLA staff acted with any malice of intent."
