Notorious paedophile moves to Sligo Town - UPDATED

A notorious paedophile has taken up residence in Sligo town.

Anthony Luckwill, 44, served two years and nine months of a four-and-a-half year sentence for sexually abusing two teenage boys.

He was sentenced in 2013 and after his early release he then moved to Rathcoole, Co Dublin into a property, located close to Scoil Chronain, where in May 2016 he had to be escorted from the premises by gardaí after the premises was set alight and Luckwill was viciously beaten by furious locals.

Sligo Today understands that the evil predator has now taken up residence in an apartment at Calry Court on Stephen Street directly opposite the Central Library. The library is used by hundreds of children on a regular basis.

in June 2011 the twisted paedo, originally from Clondalkin in Dublin, posed as a casting agent for TV programmes on the social networking site Bebo and set up an ‘audition’ at his apartment in Navan, Co Meath for a 16-year-old boy who he then sexually assaulted.

In February of the same year he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy which took place after he asked the boy’s mother if he had an interest in acting or modelling.

She left him with Luckwill for 30 minutes, during which time he made the boy undress and measured all parts of him. He told the boy he was measuring him for a football strip.

Gardaí were notified by the mother of the 13-year-old and, in a follow-up search of Luckwill’s apartment, they seized his computer and saw the communication via Bebo with the 16-year-old.

Luckwill has a series of convictions for possession of child pornography in Ireland and in Wales.

In October 2012, he was jailed for five months by Guernsey Magistrates Court for incitement of a child under the age of 14 to commit an act of gross indecency which was committed while on bail for the offences in Meath.

His shocking criminal history includes a conviction for possession of child pornography in Wales in July 2003 and a separate, but similar, charge in court in Swansea a year later.

He was then sentenced to two years in prison for possession of child pornography at the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin in 2005.

At Caernarfon Crown Court in Wales in 2006, he was sentenced to 33 months for two breaches of a sexual prevention order.

Courts in Ireland and the UK deemed him so dangerous that he is on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life in both countries.

Passing sentence at Trim Circuit Court in June 2013, Judge Michael O’Shea said the offence involving the 13-year-old was, “was humiliating, horrific, disgraceful, and disgusting”.

In relation to the 16-year-old, he said it was “calculating and cunning by the defendant”, and the casting and audition were “simply motivated for sexual purposes. It was cunning, calculating, and it was an act of a predator... and the prey was this unfortunate victim”.

The judge said that a psychological report stated that Luckwill’s original view was that children under the age of consent were able to give their consent to sexual acts with adults. It was also the accused’s view that children are not exploited in child pornography.

In relation to the 16-year-old, the judge jailed Luckwill for two-and-a-half years. For the offence involving the 13-year-old, he imposed a two-year term. The sentences ran consecutively and Luckwill was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely. Luckwill was also subject to two years of post-release supervision.

In June 2015 in Dublin, he was sentenced to six months in prison for failing to notify gardaí of a change of address.

Sligo Today can confirm that Anthony Luckwill and his male companion have now left the Calry Court apartment complex and the behest of the landlord.

He had in his possession, when initiating the lease on the premises, documents, a PPS Number and references in a different name.
