SAM Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Stan Burns will be performing for the first time this Sunday in an Informal Music Programme that also includes soprano Elisabeth Goell performing with Ramuna Sakalauskaite (harp) and Sligo Baroque Orcheestra.
SAM Youth Jazz Orchestra was formed in 2013 essentially as a training ground for young musicians to develop their skills through the performance of big band music.
In 2016 the Jazz Orchestra was awarded the silver medal at the prestigious Young Bohemia Festival in Prague, their first overseas performance. Since then, this group of young musicians have been meeting new musical challenges with enthusiasm and always a sense of fun.
Elisabeth Goell and Ramuna Sakalauskaite will perform some classical arrangements of traditional airs as well as music for solo harp. And Sligo Baroque Orchestra will present a concerto in the French Style by Telemann and a suite by a composer who was working in Dublin in the eighteenth century, Johann Sigismund Kusser.
IMAs are held on the first Sunday in the month at 1 pm. The present an eclectic mix of music from different genres, in a relaxed, cabaret style set-up in the Model, with the Gallery Café offering tempting refreshment, and to which children are particularly welcome.
