A LOCAL church plans to curtail the number of contributions envelopes it circulates to area households.
The move will save an estimated €2,000 predicts Fr Pat Lombard, parish priest at St Anne's in Sligo town.
The cost of purchasing the 'Responsible Stewardship' envelopes is ''very high'' he wrote at the weekend.
The numbered envelopes cost €7,989 in 2015/2016, said audited figures the PP circulated.
The accounts also showed that direct costs of running his church were cut by 35% last year.
Maintenance and insurance also showed significant drops in 2016.
Overall, total income was €208,319 last year with (reduced) expenditure clocking in at €244,220.
A major cost in the years ahead will be repairs to the main roof, the PP confirmed over the weekend.
Meanwhile, some money will be spent this year on flat roofs, painting of gutters, car park barriers and on the foyer.
