The allocation of €138,000 for two harbour projects in Co. Sligo has been welcomed by Independent MEP Marian Harkin as important small scale supports for coastal communities.
The combination of Government and local Authority funds enabled the provision of a pontoon and access ramp and increased slipway length at Rosses Point and a pier crane and ancillary works at Raghly Harbour, she said.
“While the allocation of €138,000 for these projects is not huge it is nevertheless important acknowledgement of the importance of maintaining harbours in Co. Sligo for commercial, amenity and tourism purposes”, Marian Harkin said.
The projects would also provide local business opportunities and were an acknowledgement that coastal communities in remote parts of the country required, and deserved, ongoing support in the allocation of national resources, she concluded.
