Hometown civic honour for Grand National winner

GRAND NATIONAL winning jockey of 2017, Derek Fox, was accorded a civic reception in his hometown yesterday evening, Easter Sunday.

Family and friends attended the event at County Hall, Riverside.

Way Back

It coincided with a visit back to his hometown by the 24 year old jockey of ''One For Arthur.''

The horse was entered, way back, for the Scottish Grand National next Saturday but the Ayr showpiece will be left to 30 other runners to jump 27 fences over four miles.

Fox was only the second Sligo jockey in modern times to land the big prize at Aintree. See link.

He won the Grand National on Saturday April 8th last by four a half lengths at odds of 14/1.

He jumped thirty fences after two circuits with famed fences such as Becher's Brook, The Water, The Chair, The Canal Turn and Valentines Brook.
