There will be a public meeting in Sligo City Hotel tomorrow, Thursday (20 April) at 8pm
organised by People Before Profit Sligo after strikes from teachers, Tesco workers, nurses and bus drivers - the Fight for Workers' Rights with People Before Profit TD, Bríd Smith.
"Bríd Smith has devoted her whole adult life to the struggle for workers’ rights, women’s rights and the rights of all the people against the the 1% super rich. She was the first female shop steward in Dublin Bus and is an activist in the union, Unite. We are also delighted to have some of the local striking bus workers sharing their experiences and discussing what's next in the fight for decent public services and working conditions," said Nigel Gallagher, local general election candidate for PBP.
Bríd said, "It's clear that the fight for decent pay and conditions has intensified recently. The stakes in these struggles are extremely high – both for workers and for the establishment. Irish elites here terrified of another recession in the wake of Brexit.
"To sustain their international competitiveness they want to hold down wages and ensure all of the gains from the economy to go to the top of society. We need to argue for and support workers struggle so everyone can start to improve their conditions and tackle inequality."
The event is free and all are welcome.
