SLIGO AGAIN took part in the annual 'Darkness Into Light' event earlier this morning, Saturday.
The event which raises funds for suicide awareness charity Pieta House is now in its seventh year.
The Sligo town event got under way shortly after 4.15am at the Knocknarea Arena, Institute of Technology.
By that time, some 'Darkness Into Light' events had already been held in China and New Zealand.
In Sligo itself, the weather was dry and windy but the participants were neither. All were ready, willing and in good spirits.
The countdown to the 'off' had begun across the globe on social media yesterday and last night.
Both walkers and runners took part in Sligo, as the event continues to capture the imagination.
Seven years ago, just four hundred took part overall in the inaugural Pieta House event.
Organisers saw this rise to 130,000 last year and confidently predicted 150,000 for the final count later today.
international participation in support of Pieta House may even push the
final numbers for 2017 to 200,000, said organisers.Pics to firstname.lastname@example.org
