Cathaoirleach highlights dangers of skin cancer

The Cathaoirleach Councillor Hubert Keaney was joined by fellow Councillors and Chief Executive Ciarán Hayes for a photocall at County Hall aimed at promoting awareness of skin cancer in men.

According to the Cathaoirleach ‘We want to increase the awareness among men on the dangers of sun light in causing skin cancer and to encourage the wearing of hats to help prevent this ever increasing problem. Figures produced last week showed a steady increases in skin cancer cases and increase in deaths.’

Cllr Keany's initiative comes before International Men's Health Week 2017 which will run from Monday 12th until Sunday 18th June (Father's Day).

In Ireland, the title for the week is 'It’s all about HIM’, and everyone across the island is being asked the question 'how are you doing?' in relation to men's health and wellbeing.

The overall aims of Men's Health Week are to:

Heighten awareness of preventable health problems for males of all ages.
Support men and boys to engage in healthier lifestyle choices / activities.
Encourage the early detection and treatment of health difficulties in males.
