Three sixth class pupils at Carbury N.S in Sligo, Sadhbh Timmons Hennessy, Anushka Pathak and Mia Harmon Clinch have raised €1,340 for the children’s ward of Sligo University Hospital by having a home-made crafts stall and raffle at the Sligo IT farmers market. The funds raised will be used to paint a mural in the children’s ward. The girls’ school, Carbury N.S. also held a sponsored non-uniform day which school families contributed to, to support their efforts.
The girls presented their cheque to staff in the children’s ward at Sligo University Hospital and said: “We wanted to contribute to a cause that is close to the hearts of all families in Sligo and does so much to help sick children in our community.
"Most of us or members of our family and friends have been in the children’s ward at some stage and we think it’s so important to support the work done here.”
The girls approached 25 Sligo businesses that generously donated goods which they put into a stunning hamper to raffle. “We are so grateful to the businesses in Sligo that were so incredibly generous in donating goods for our fabulous ‘Taste of Sligo’ hamper. It made selling the raffle tickets easy!”
