Sligo students adopt WWl battle casualties
The history project ‘My Adopted Soldier’ which commemorates soldiers
from the island of Ireland who died in WWl sill see 15 secondary school
pupils join with 15 German students in a visit to the war zone around
the city of Ypres in Belgium.
The visit has been facilitated by Independent MEP Marian Harkin and a German colleague who has funded the students from Frankfurt.
This year’s event will take place from June 20th to 24th and will have involved each student in identifying a soldier from their area, developing his story, and visiting his grave in the Belgian battlefields.
