Memorial to slain gardaí planned for Shannon's Cross

The erection of a Memorial in memory of Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne has been proposed for Shannon's Cross.

The site at Loughglynn, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, marks the spot where Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne were fatally wounded after a bank robbery in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, on the 7th of July 1980.

The organising committee are officially launching the Memorial Fund in Creatons Bar, Loughglynn on the 19th of May at 10.00pm.

In attendance will be Chief Superintendent Rattigan, Senator John O Mahoney, members of the Morley and Byrne families, also friends and former colleagues of the slain gardaí.
