Rovers face each other in vital tie

SLIGO ROVERS slipped back into the relegation zone without even playing last night, Friday.

Now, Sunday evening's Showgrounds clash with 'Auld Enemy' Shamrock Rovers has assumed added importance for both clubs. Note kick off time is 6pm.

The ''Bit o' Red'' are one of five teams still ensnared in the SSE Airtricity League's relegation dogfight.

Three of those teams will be relegated at the end of the season next October.

This weekend Sligo Rovers occupy tenth of twelve places in the SSE Airtricity League.

They have won only three of their nineteen games, drawn eight and also lost eight times.

At the other end of the table, The ''Hoops'' can move into one of the automatic spots for European football next season if they can climb above Bray Wanderers this weekend.

Gaelic Qualifiers

Sligo Rovers season of woe was not helped by last night's 1-1 outcome which gave St Patrick's Athletic and Galway United a valuable point each.

The Showgrounds side has not won in its seven most recent games.

But a draw of any description tomorrow night would push the Bit o' Red two places up the league and out of the danger zone for now.

Twenty four hours earlier, tonight Saturday at 6pm, Sligo face a fancied Meath in Navan in the GAA qualifier series.

The losers will leave the race for the 2017 All Ireland Senior Football Championship - - the race for 'Sam Maguire.'
