THE TAOISEACH had no info update on Sligo's new Garda station when queried in the Dail this week.
Local Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin 'hopped' the questions unannounced on Leo Varadkar in a debate on the Order of Business.
On Tuesday afternoon he recalled the Programme for Government states An Garda Síochána ''must have the modern technology and resources necessary to detect and investigate crimes.''
McLoughlin: ''On that basis, will the Taoiseach inform me as to the
progress of the implementation of the justice capital plan to date,
which aims to update policing infrastructure nationwide?
''Will he also give an update on the development of the Garda regional headquarters for the Sligo-Leitrim division,'' asked Deputy McLoughlin.
Taoiseach Varadkar was succinct in his response: ''I am afraid I do not have that information to hand.
know there has been considerable investment in Garda capital in recent
years, not just with a return to recruitment but also additional
vehicles, new Garda stations, new IT equipment and other developments.
Minister for Justice and Equality will be best placed to provide Deputy
McLoughlin with a report on that,'' added the Taoiseach on Tuesday.
Tom MacSharry, local Fianna Fáil councillor and solicitor, was critical recently on the lack of progress on the issue.
Previously, local Gardai have described the building as unfit for purpose.
