Amazing animals galore and so much more in Riverstown

The 2017 Sligo County Agricultural Show will take place on Saturday 15th July in Riverstown Community Park. This very special annual event that has been taking place in Riverstown since 1994!  “The voluntary team of Sligo County Agricultural Show have organised lots to entertain our visitors on the day” said Imelda Ryan-Jones “and we hope that lots of visitors will join us on the day to celebrate our agricultural heritage.”

Classes include Horse & Pony, Sheep, Cattle, Poultry, Dog, Cat, Home Industries and Home Crafts as well as Bonny Baby, Little Miss Riverstown, Little Master Riverstown, Glamorous Granny, Best & Most Appropriately Dressed Lady, novelty events including turf cutting and Obstacle Course, as well as Vintage cars from the North West Vintage & Heritage Club. Farmyard in Your Schoolyard will be travelling from Galway to join us and the RSA Shuttle Bus and Rollover will join us from Mayo.

Mairead McGuinness MEP will officially open the event at 1.30pm, Damien Kelly & Dominic Farrell will be treating the crowd to music from Damien’s new album ‘For the Love of Country’ from 1pm onwards, 

Lough Bo Equestrian Centre will be offering free pony rides from 2pm & Bróga Bríomhar dancers will be dazzling the crowd at 3pm.

Obi, the biggest dog in Ireland will be visiting the Show.  Obi’s owner Jo from Lough Bo Boarding Kennels said "The Sligo County Agricultural Show is by far the best Show I have ever been to, it is well organised and there is always a lovely atmosphere so Obi and I will definitely be joining in the fun on the day”.

Many classes and sub categories have been sponsored by businesses.  “Thank you also to all our Sponsors who continue to support us each year” said Chairperson Michael Harte “and to the main sponsor of the day Gerry Davey Agricultural Contractor, Ballygawley as well as to our new sponsors who are supporting us for the first this year.”  

Joe Quinn of TAPA Total Athletic Performance Academy, a new fitness business founded this year in Riverstown and also Susie & Darren Carr of The Well Pet Hospital in Carraroe, Sligo Town who set up Sligo’s new dedicated pet hospital, are examples of new sponsors supporting the Show this year.  Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor can contact Imelda 083 8016027 or Michael 087 2422160.

“Sligo is the 2017 European Volunteering Capital, celebrating the fundamental role that volunteers play in society” said Imelda “and Sligo County Agricultural Show is a very fine example of dedicated volunteering.  For over 23 years volunteers have been working hard in the run up to, on the day itself and after each annual Show. Their consistent commitment is core to the success of the Show.  One behalf of the volunteer team I invite all the local and wider community of County Sligo to join us on 15th July for our annual agricultural celebration.”
