MacSharry requests PAC examination of GoSafe revelations

Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo - Leitrim and member of the Public Accounts Committee Marc MacSharry says a detailed examination needs to be carried out into the contract awarded to the Go Safe consortium for the carrying out of speed checks on Irish roads. See link below.

Deputy MacSharry has written to the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee to request that the issue be examined at the earliest opportunity.

Deputy Mac Sharry told Sligo Today, “These revelations are deeply concerning and need to be investigated. It’s hard to believe that a €1.2m monthly payment to GoSafe for the carrying out of speed checks represents value for money, especially considering there is no correlation to the number of detections in the contract itself. Furthermore, revelation that the company receives a €45,000 retainer fee each month is also questionable.

“It’s even more alarming that this information had to be sought through a Freedom of Information request. The figures should have been publicly available considering the vast sum of money the State is handing over to this company on a monthly basis.

“The PAC needs to examine this matter at the earliest opportunity. I have written to the Chairman of the committee to request that this be put on the agenda for the autumn,” concluded the Sligo-based TD.
