Ex head of nuns order dies in Sligo

THE RETIRED international head of the Ursuline Sisters has died in Sligo after a lengthy illness.

Sr Mary Gilbride was a native of Barnadearg, Grange, Co Sligo.

Jim McGarry, then Mayor of Sligo, accorded a Civic Reception in the early 1990s to mark her elevation to head the order at international level, including Africa.

Previously, Sr Gilbride had been Principal at the Ursuline College in Sligo.

She is survived by five married sisters, her community, and predeceased by two brothers and her parents.

Sr Gilbride's remains will repose in Nazareth House Chapel this Thursday evening from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

Removal at 6.30pm to the Cathedral of the Immmaculate Conception, Sligo to arrive at 7pm.

Mass of the Resurrection on Friday at 3pm with burial afterwards in the Ursuline Convent Cemetery, Finisklin, Sligo.
