Ireland rugby international Cliodhna Moloney will have big IT Sligo support behind her this week as the curtain lifts on the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup in Dublin.
The 24-year-old IT Sligo graduate is a member of the Ireland squad which won its opening pool match against Australia yesterday, Wednesday.
Cliodhna graduated from the Institute in 2014 with a degree in Sport With Business (formerly Recreation & Leisure), and currently works with KBC Bank Ireland.
She took up rugby just three years ago during her college work placement, when invited to play by a friend who was involved with a club in Dublin.
Since then, the Tuam native has gone on to perform with distinction for her club Railway Union, Leinster and now Ireland.
Ireland’s opening pool match saw them beat Australia by two points. (19 - 17)
The tournament runs from August 9th to 26th. The pool stages take place in Dublin at the UCD Bowl and Billings Park in UCD before switching to Belfast from August 22nd where the playoff matches will be staged at Queen’s University and the Kingspan stadium.Click here for more information on the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017.
