Sligo People Before Profit Cllr Gino O’Boyle has said that his family are delighted and honoured that a Sligo Town sports park will be named after his late father, former Sligo County Councillor Seamie O'Boyle.Tomorrow, Friday 11 August, the second anniversary of the popular councillor's untimely death, Forthill Park will be officially named ‘O’Boyle Park’.
The flood-lit park, just off Connaughton Road, has two soccer pitches, a GAA field, running track and basketball court along with a recently added outdoor gym has been described as a 'hidden gem'.
"We are delighted for Dad," said Gino, "Its gratifying to see recognition for the work Dad did in the community. His memory will live on. When we are all gone the name will still be there for generations to come."
Seamie O'Boyle (58) died at the wheel of his van in Sligo Town from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome on 11 August 2015.
He was active in developing Forthill Park for the young people of the area.
