The Horses Connect project at Bushy Park Galway has been described by Independent MEP Marian Harkin as a hugely important initiative which uses interaction with horses to help the social and emotional development of those with conditions ranging from autism to substance abuse issues.
On her recent visit to the project, Marian Harkin expressed surprise that no state funds were being provided to support the hugely important and voluntary work of the promoters.
“The proven success of using horse connection in relation to autism for example has considerably enhanced the quality of life of the children and families involved. I will be examining how I can assist this project in sourcing the funds necessary to resource this very deserving support mechanism for people with a range of disabilities who can be effectively helped through equine assisted learning” Marian Harkin said.
