Syrian Guests join Sligo Global Kitchen next week

Sligo Global Kitchen will meet at The Model on September 16th at 3pm. To kick off the autumn season, Syrian Refugees from Ballaghaderreen have generously accepted an invitation to cater for the first in our series.

The event starts from 3 pm in the beautiful Model atrium café and welcomes anyone interested in sharing delicious food in a unique multi-cultural and friendly environment. This event brings together Sligo’s community with people from around the world to share food and conversation at a communal table, which is at the heart of Sligo Global Kitchen.

“As part of the International scheme to host Syrian refugees fleeing from a war-torn country, Ireland took in some and we are privileged to share our table with 50 of them’ said Mabel Chah, a representative of Sligo Global Kitchen, “they agreed and are looking forward to cater for the main meal which will be sided by food from Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

This fun family friendly event is free, and is an exciting space for enriching Sligo's cultural life. Everyone is welcome to join in and donations will be accepted on the day. Sligo Global Kitchen is supported by The Model and The Community Foundation for Ireland.

Sligo Global Kitchen is a multi-cultural community art project which uses the social relations of food and art to engage Sligo’s diverse communities in a culinary and cultural exchange. Running since early 2015, Sligo Global Kitchen presents opportunities to link local resources with local needs. The concept is based on the principle of hospitality, a cornerstone of Irish culture and values, which is equally important in other cultures.
