Councillor Jerry Lundy’s opinion was adopted at the Commission for Natural Resources EU meeting.
Councillor Jerry Lundy presented his opinion paper entitled ‘Action Plan for a Maritime Strategy in the Atlantic Area - Delivering Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth’
at this week’s meeting of the Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) in the Committee of Regions (CoR), Brussels on Wednesday.
After a short discussion the opinion was adopted unanimously by the Commission. The opinion will be presented to all Committee of Regions members at the plenary meeting taking place on the 30th November and 1st December 2017 and it is expected to be adopted at the same meeting.
Councillor Lundy is a member of Sligo County Council and the Northern and Western Regional Assembly. As a member of the Irish National Delegation to the Committee of Regions he represents the region at the European level.
Committee of Regions (CoR) is a European Union body made up of representatives of local authorities from across all Member States. Its primary role is to advise the European Commission on draft legislations before it is presented to the European Parliament by preparing opinions and resolutions.
Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) is one of six separate commissions working as part of Committee of Regions. The Commission coordinates the Committee of the Regions' work in the following areas:
• Rural Development and CAP
• Food production
• Maritime policy
• Public health
• Consumer protection
• Civil protection
