Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy has welcomed the announcement by Irish Water of an upgrade of 1.9km of water pipes along the R278 in Calry as being “very welcome but long, long over due for dozens of households”. See link (i) below.
“The residents of Fivemilebourne in Calry have been enduring an unusable water supply for years now”, stated Cllr Healy.
“Their water is visibly discoloured and unfit for drinking, bathing and laundry. I have been lobbying Irish Water on behalf of local residents since I was first elected and have had a number of motions calling for a water pipe upgrade adopted by Sligo County Council. See link (ii) below
"The announcement of an investment 0f €190,000 by Irish Water replacing 1.9 km of old cast iron pipes is very welcome but long, long overdue.
"Following representations I made to Irish Water and the publicising of the problem they did flush out the system on a number of occasions but this was only ever a temporary measure.”
“Following this announcement up to 150 residents will for the first time be able to enjoy a clean water supply.
"The full works will take about five months to complete and I will be monitoring the progress and liasing with residents and Irish Water until a full resolution of the problem is finally in place.”
