A body has been recovered from the Shannon River just north of Carrick-on-Shannon.

Gardaí confirmed the remains discovered at around 8.45m on Wednesday are those of Dublin man Janusz Jasicki who went missing during an event in Carrick-on-Shannon on September 30 last.

Gardai say the body has been removed to Sligo University Hospital for a post mortem.

Intensive searches were carried throughout last weekend utilising drones and with the assistance of local gardai and garda specialist units, members of the Civil Defence and members of Leitrim's Fire Services.

Gardai have thanked everyone for their assistance with the search for Mr Jasicki in recent days.
