While the clean-up operation is largely complete, motorists and other road users are asked to remain vigilant as there may be fallen trees, branches or other debris on local roads.

It is important to note that the severe winds have weakened some trees and many routes remain hazardous for this reason, landowners are asked to check the trees on their property.

Committee Chair, Director of Services Tom Kilfeather re-iterated his commendation of the Roads crews and support staff for their prompt and professional action in response to the various call outs throughout Monday and  the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Seamus Kilgannon said the Coordination Committee and the various work crews ‘did an exemplary job’ in very challenging conditions and said    the public acknowledged their dedication over the course of the last 24 hours.

There was a total of 45 roads staff deployed throughout Monday and early hours of Tuesday morning.

Sligo County Council would like to express its gratitude to the public for their cooperation, as it was evident that only essential journeys were taken over the course of the day and evening.
