Sligo hospital addressing hygiene issues raised in HIQA report

Sligo University Hospital insists it’s addressing the issues raised in a recent inspection report by the health watchdog.

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) noted deficiencies in hygiene at the northwest facility, while it claimed infrastructural shortfalls were impacting on infection prevention.

The hospital says it continues to focus its effort to address the infrastructural deficiencies, as part of a longer term capital development plan.

It notes that since the inspection, the pre-planning upgrading of the coronary care unit will be completed next week, which addresses many of the infrastructural deficits identified in the report.

The hospital also confirms that, as requested by HIQA, a review of all aspects of hygiene service delivery will take place.
