Motorcyclist who died in north Sligo collision named

A motorcyclist has died following a road traffic incident in north Sligo.

The incident occurred at Mount Temple on the N15 Sligo/Donegal Road on the Sligo town side of Cliffoney yesterday, Thursday at about 4pm.

The male motorcyclist (66) has been named as Packie McGrath of 7 St. Benildus Ave, Ballyshannon who was pronounced dead at the scene before he was taken to Sligo University Hospital.

The woman driving the car was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Three children travelling with her were uninjured.

The road was closed for a forensic collision examination and local diversions are still in place this morning as the road is not expected to reopen until lunchtime today. Friday.

Gardai are warning motorists to slow down in the area and that traffic approaching from the Bundoran direction is being diverted at Gorevan’s Pub and will emerge at Munninane while traffic from the Grange direction will be diverted onto the ‘old N15’ at Anhold’s, Moneygold.
