According to a Sligo County Councillor traffic calming measures are needed in Ballinacarrow as a matter of urgency.
South Sligo Cllr Dara Mulvey has called for Traffic calming measures to be put in place immediately in Ballinacarrow village on the busy N17 road.
"I have met with concerned locals including parents with small children and elderly people who encounter the speeding problem on a daily basis, " Cllr Mulvey told Sligo Today.
"A significant amount of traffic approaching the village from either Sligo or Tubbercurry appears to be oblivious to the traffic lights outside the playground, national school, creche and community centre.
"The majority of new houses in Ballinacarrow are on the opposite side of the road to these community facilities. A petition has been submitted and recently a roads engineer from Sligo County Council visited this location and meet with Cllr Mulvey and local parents and listened to their concerns. The engineer outlined some possible measures could be put in place with the approval of the TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
Cllr Mulvey stated that he has written to the TII and called on them to provide funding for this hazardous location as soon as possible before there is a fatality.
