Whale washed up onto Sligo beach

A large dead whale was yesterday washed up onto the Sligo coast at Trawee Beach, near Templeboy.

Ocean FM reported that a local farmer made the discovery while tending to his animals.

The large creature is near The Beach Bar at Aughris, Templeboy Sligo.

Local business man, Blair Feeney told the radio station that the whale as around ’70-80 foot long and about 7-9 foot in diameter’.

A large number of people came to the area yesterday to view the whale however, the beach is designated as a no swim area, so caution is advised for anyone near it.

Mr Feeney added that it is an incredible sight, describing it as both "beautiful" and "sad".

Sligo County Council will bear the responsibility of disposing of the carcass.

Just last week, a 20 ft whale was discovered on the shore on Arranmore Island off the coast of Co. Donegal.
