Northwest branch of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment established

A northwest branch of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment has been formed, following an inaugural meeting in Sligo last Thursday, 16th November.

The new branch, Northwest Coalition to Repeal the 8th, is made up of community activists, NGOs, trade unions and political representatives, who have come together with the shared aim of repealing the Eighth Amendment. The branch is currently making plans for a series of public talks and meetings, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Commenting on the establishment of the new branch, Ailbhe Smyth, Convenor of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment, said: “It’s very encouraging to see the movement to repeal the Eighth Amendment gaining momentum in the northwest, and we’re looking forward to the Northwest branch leading the charge for repealing the Eighth in the northwest.”

With a referendum due to take place next year, the Northwest branch is calling on everyone interested in campaigning for repeal of the Eighth Amendment to get in touch with to find out how they can get involved.

The Northwest Coalition can be contacted by emailing NorthWestRepealThe8th@gmail.com and following the branch on Twitter: @RepealEightNW.
