Subsidiary company 2RN were not happy with the fee and took its case to Bord Pleanala, the statutory appeals agency.

this year from Sligo County Council to retain the mast.
The Council’s fees for telecommunications masts is outlined in its County Development Plan 2011 to 2017.
Pleanala Inspector Stephen J O’Sullivan recommended that the €15,000 charge be upheld.
Details of his report were published online last night, Wednesday.

The RTÉ subsidiary previously paid a fee of €20,000 in respect of another smaller mast on the site.
This discounted RTÉ claims of “double counting” by Sligo County Council, Pleanala’s assessment said.
The main mast is 175 metres high in the townlands of Clogh and Moodoge on the border of Sligo and North Leitrim.
It has been in use since 1962 and, the Pleanala hearing confirmed, other telecommunications providers use the mast.
