Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning as Storm Eleanor
is set to hit the country today.
Gusts of up to 130km/h are forecast as west to southwest winds with mean speeds of 65 to 80km/h are expected to sweep across Leinster and parts of Munster and Connacht.A wind warning is in place for counties Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, south Galway, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary.
There is a risk of coastal flooding with very high seas along Atlantic coasts.
The Status Orange warning will be in place from 5pm to 10pm today.A Status Yellow warning is in place for the rest of the country with winds of up to 65km/h and gusts of up to 110km/h expected.
Met Éireann says there is the potential for damaging gusts locally for a time this evening.
The warning will be in place from 5pm today until 9pm on Wednesday night.
Storm Eleanor comes on the heels of Storm Dylan, which passed over the country over the weekend.
