Showgrounds scorer lands lottery million

LAST MAY Kevin O’Connor wrapped up three points in the Showgrounds as champions elect Cork City.

His 81st minute goal, direct from a corner kick, finally ended a stout resistance and put Sligo Rovers to the sword.

Just two years earlier O’Connor had made his debut for the Leesiders, also against Sligo Rovers.

Last night, O’Connor had joined another elite band in the Ieague of Ireland’s lotto millionaires.

He won Sunday night’s draw for one million euro.....without ever splurging €25 on ticket number 054239.

Christmas Present

His godfather and uncle in Wexford had made it a Christmas present to the Preston North End and Ireland Under 23 star.

The National Lottery had planned to sell half a million tickets for Sunday’s draw.

But that target is believed to have fallen short, not helped by the hike in ticket price.

Meanwhile Carmel Hargadon of Lugdoon, Templeboy won the €200 Tesco voucher in the Sligo Rovers weekly lotto draw last night, Tuesday.

The winning foursome was 2, 10, 15 and 23 and there were no claims for an all-correct forecast.
